Frequently Asked Questions

Can I pitch to more than 1 agent/publisher?

A limited number of second one-on-one sessions may be purchased when registering.

Can I Purchase a One-Day Ticket?

Not this year. Due to high expenses, we are unable to offer a single day admission. You don’t have to attend both days, but we hope that you do.

Is food included in the cost of attendance?

We’ll provide complimentary coffee, iced tea, and water throughout the day, plus heavy hors d'oeuvres for dinner on Saturday.

To keep the conference affordable, lunch is not included, but we picked a location that is within walking distance of many great (and fast) eateries. The hotel bar/restaurant will be open for lunch each day, and we have also reached out to Waterside and the City of Norfolk to ensure the restaurants we list are open.

What’s the dress code for attendees?

Business casual is recommended, sharp but comfortable attire. All events will take place indoors, but we suggest bringing layers since hotel meeting rooms can vary in temperature, and our location offers beautiful outdoor water views and walking paths you may want to explore.

I am coming from out of town. What is there to do in Norfolk before or after the conference?

See the Visit Norfolk website for a complete listing of what would be fun to do and see.

Are scholarships available?

A limited number of scholarships are available. Recipients must volunteer. See our Registration page for more information.

What if I need to cancel my registration?

Please see our Policies page for our refund policies.

What happened to the Christopher Newport University Writers Conference and the Hampton Roads Writers Conference?

CNU, due to university-wide cuts and departmental reorganization, shuttered their conference after 2024’s edition. Hampton Roads Writers folded as an organization at the end of last year, and 2024 was their last conference. We at The Muse feel great sadness in the loss of these two long-term partners in the literary community, and the Muse Writers Conference is our way of carrying on their legacy. HRW actually donated much of their conference equipment to us, and we are honored to be able to use it so quickly.

I have another question. Who can help me?

You can contact The Muse here.
